Derrius Guice: Torn ACL - Out for Season
Well, that was quick. On the first official night of pre-season football, we have our first injury casualty of the season in Derrius Guice. Guice, a second round pick of the Washington Redskins, who was slated to be the starting running back in the Redskins backfield has torn his ACL and will now miss the entire season. Not only is this a huge blow for the Redskins, but fantasy footballers alike as Guice was projected as a RB2 and going in the 3rd round of early drafts.
The Redskins will be forced to go back to leaning on Samaje Perine, Rob Kelley and maybe even Kapri Bibbs (who had a 41 yard run last night and 48 yards on 4 carries). Chris Thompson could see an expanded role outside of his 3rd down work as well. However I am skeptical of Thompson as he has expressed concern over his surgically repaired knee (resulting from his own ACL tear in 2017). He is taking reduced reps in practice, sat out week 1 of pre-season and has even said himself that he is still reluctant to make cuts on that leg. Do not reach for Thompson in drafts this season. Take him in a late round or not at all.
