Josh Gordon Returns To Browns Camp
News has broken this afternoon that Josh Gordon is on his way back to Brown's camp after his mysterious stint away from the team. Here is Gordon's official statement via his personal Twitter account:
According to ESPN.com, Gordon decided to sit out training camp because he wanted to seek "additional counseling to deal with his mental health and anxiety" issues that have led to problems in the past. According to ESPN, Gordon would usually turn to alcohol or marijuana whenever he became anxious, which is how he ended up missing 54 games over a period of four seasons (2014-17).
This is obviously great news for Cleveland and fantasy football fans alike. When Gordon has been on the field, he has been one of the most dominant receivers in the league. Here are the stat lines from his rookie season and second year, when he led the league in receiving.
This news is sure to shoot Gordon up draft boards, so don't count on getting him at his current ADP of 52nd overall, or the fifth round of 12 team leagues. Is he worth the price of admission if he shoots up to round 3-4? He clearly is still a risky proposition, however you have to think that if he's able to stay on the field he should return WR1 numbers.
It comes down to risk aversion. Do you want to roll the dice that Gordon has turned the corner and can avoid the wrath of Roger Goodell this year? If the answer is yes, get ready to pay the piper because the asking price just went up.
