Week 5 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Express: ALL ABOARD!!!

ALL ABOAARDDDDD!!!! The Waiver Wire Express is leaving the station. Next Stop: Week 5. This weekly column will tell you all about players I am adding off the waiver wire as well as suggested FAAB amounts. I will also tell you which players I feel comfortable dropping at each position. Pay close attention to your league settings. If you have an injured player and have an IR slot – you’re much better off stashing them on IR as opposed to just dropping them. I try to include clips of each player's highlights from the previous week so I can put the proof right in this waiver wire pudding.

In general, recommended players will be 50% owned or less in Yahoo leagues (some players may be just over).

Top Adds for Week 5:

1. Baker Mayfield

2. Derek Carr

3. Marcus Mariota

Running Backs:

1. TJ Yeldon

2. Mike Davis

3. Nyhiem Hines

4. Duke Johnson Jr.

5. Nick Chubb

Wide Receivers:

1. Geronimo Allison

2. Taylor Gabriel

3. Mohammed Sanu

4. Dede Westbrook

5. Antonio Callaway

6. Donte Moncrief

Tight Ends:

1. Vance McDonald

2. Cameron Brate

3. Geoff Swaim

1. Ryan Succop

2. Dan Bailey

3. Ka’imi Fairbairn

1. Titans

2. 49ers

1. Ryan Fitzpatrick (only if Jameis Winston is named the Starter) – TB (73% owned): Jameis took over in a blowout and when head coach Dirk Koetter was asked if Jameis had done enough to win his job back he said “probably”. This was in the same press conference where Koetter said he, himself, should be fired. They’re headed in to their bye week which adds to the uncertainty. If at any point Jameis is named the started, Fitzmagic becomes droppable. After losing 2 straight games it’s time for the Bucs to “eat a W”.

1. Baker Mayfield – CLE (44% owned): Baker looks legit. He led the Browns to a 42 point effort on Sunday by throwing for 295 yards with 2 touchdowns. I don’t love the Week 5 matchup against the Browns, but the competition softens up in Weeks 6-10.

Upcoming Schedule: BAL, LAC, @TB, BYE FAAB Bid: $15-20

2. Derek Carr – OAK (36% owned): I’m thinking of a defense. They rank 12th worst in passing yards allowed per game. They have allowed the 6th most passing touchdowns this season (10). They are tied for the 7th fewest sacks with 8. And, opposing QB’s have a 100.9 rating against them for the season. It’s the Chargers. And now Derek Carr coming off his best game of the season gets to play them. He threw for 437 yards and 4 TD’s. Stream this man!

Upcoming Schedule: @LAC, SEA, BYE, IND FAAB Bid: $8-10

3. Marcus Mariota – TEN (33% owned): Opposing teams have a 100.3 QB rating against the Bills. The Bills have just 2 INT’s so far this season and allow opposing QBs to complete 69.4% of their passes. Mariota’s elbow appears to be on the mend – he went 30/43 for 344 yards and 2 TD’s. He also added 46 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Stream him too!

Upcoming Schedule: @BUF, BAL, @LAC, BYE FAAB Bid: $8-10

1. TJ Yeldon – JAC (51% owned): Fournette cannot stay healthy. Yeldon is a must-add in all formats as Fournette is expected to miss at least the next two games and Fournette’s durability is a perennial issue. Yeldon is averaging over 4 yards per carry and has 22 targets over the first 4 games.

Upcoming Schedule: @KC, @DAL, HOU, PHI FAAB Bid: $30-35 (Fournette Owners: Every dollar you have)

2. Mike Davis – SEA (2% owned): Chris Carson being Inactive after his impressive 32 carry game against Dallas. Davis was even better on Sunday against the Cardinals rushing 21 times for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pete Carroll has said it will be a committee, but Davis is clearly ahead of Rashaad Penny on the depth chart and if Carson has to miss another game with his hip injury, Davis would be a must-start RB2. Right now you have to think Carson and Davis are RB3/Flexes and Penny is just a bench stash.

Upcoming Schedule: LAR, @OAK, BYE, @DET FAAB Bid: 15-20 (Carson owners: $20-25)

3. Nyhiem Hines – IND (15% owned): He is emerging as the best running back in Indy and even though they don’t lean on him to run the ball – his 9 catches on 11 targets have my attention. The two touchdowns didn’t hurt either. He should be plenty active on Thursday night against the Patriots as the Colts try to keep up with New England.

Upcoming Schedule: @NE, @NYJ, BUF, OAK FAAB Bid: 12-14

4. Duke Johnson Jr. – CLE (42% owned): Many wondered if Johnson would become more involved in the passing game with Baker Mayfield taking over at quarterback. That answer is yes. After catching 4 passes on 6 targets for 45 yards on Sunday, Duke is becoming a flex option in PPR leagues and rosterable everywhere.

Upcoming Schedule: BAL, LAC, @TB, @PIT

FAAB Bid: $8-10

5. Nick Chubb – CLE (19% owned): The workload is not there, but the talent certainly is. He took it to the house twice on 3 carries, but with Duke handling the pass-catching role and Carlos Hyde dominating the carries, it’s hard to justify going after Chubb too aggressively. He’s worth a stash in case his workload expands and he’s definitely the handcuff to own if you have Hyde.

Upcoming Schedule: BAL, LAC, @TB, @PIT

FAAB Bid: $2-4 (Hyde owners: $4-6)

1. Kelvin Benjamin – BUF (30% owned): 7 catches in 4 games.

2. Brandon Marshall – SEA (26% owned): He was awful with Baldwin out and if you didn’t drop him when Baldwin came back – now is the time.

3. DeVante Parker – MIA (24% owned): Cya Dink.

1. Geronimo Allison – GB (47% owned): Normally he’s the 3rd wide receiver in an Aaron Rodgers led offense. Right now, he’s their #2 WR and Randall Cobb said he was not even close to playing this past weekend. He had 11 targets on Sunday. If he’s out there – go get him.

Upcoming Schedule: @DET, SF, BYE, @LAR

FAAB Bid: $20-25

2. Taylor Gabriel – CHI (6% owned): Despite little production heading in to Week 4 – Gabriel quietly had 22 targets heading in to his matchup against the Bucs. He then caught 7 passes on 7 targets with 2 touchdowns. Slot receiver Anthony Miller is dealing with a separated shoulder and Gabriel is filling in at the slot and is heavily targeted by Trubisky when under pressure. Gabriel is pulling away as the second wide receiving option in Chicago after Allen Robinson.

Upcoming Schedule: BYE, @MIA, NE, NYJ

FAAB Bid: $10-15

3. Mohammed Sanu – ATL (15% owned): If you thought Calvin Ridley is the second most targeted WR in Atlanta, you would be wrong. It’s Sanu. He’s been targeted 24 times, only behind Julio Jones who has 46. Sanu took full advantage of defenses paying extra attention to Calvin Ridley on Sunday as Sanu posted 6 catches on 9 targets for 111 yards. He’s a must-own player in what is turning out to be a high-powered Atlanta offense.

Upcoming Schedule: @PIT, TB, NYG, BYE

FAAB Bid: $10-15

4. Dede Westbrook – JAC (17% owned): He leads the Jaguars in targets (28), receptions (21) and yards (294). The Jaguars passing game is not super reliable, but Westbrook sits as a WR3 so far this season and should be owned in a lot more leagues.

Upcoming Schedule: @KC, @DAL, HOU, PHI

FAAB Bid: $8-10

5. Antonio Callaway – CLE (38% owned): He had 9 targets on Sunday which he turned in to 3 catches for 54 yards. Baker Mayfield is going to produce in this offense and Callaway is going to have some big weeks catching passes from him.

Upcoming Schedule: BAL, LAC, @TB, @PIT

FAAB Bid: $8-10

6. Donte Moncrief – JAC (6% owned): He had a big game on Sunday catching all 5 of his targets for 109 yards and he scored for the 2nd time in 3 games. With bye weeks coming up, you could do worse as a fill-in.

Upcoming Schedule: @KC, @DAL, HOU, PHI

FAAB Bid: $4-6

1. Tyler Eifert – CIN (61% owned): Out for the season with a broken ankle.

2. Greg Olsen – CAR (50% owned): Only hang on if you have an IR spot.

3. Will Dissly – SEA (33% owned): Suffered a torn patella tendon on Sunday.

4. Jesse James – PIT (29% owned): It’s Vance McDonald time.

1. Vance McDonald – PIT (43% owned): 3 straight games with 5 targets. His TD on Monday night last week was incredible.

Upcoming Schedule: ATL, @CIN, BYE, CLE

FAAB Bid: $8-10

2. Cameron Brate – TB (24% owned): It could be time to “Make America Brate Again”. Brate has touchdowns in back to back weeks and finally appears to have a role in this offense. Jameis should rely more on Brate than Fitzpatrick did and the injury to OJ Howard doesn’t hurt either.

Upcoming Schedule: BYE, @ATL, CLE, @CIN

FAAB Bid: $2-4

3. Geoff Swaim – DAL (0% owned): Who said Dallas doesn’t have any weapons? Swaim has two straight games with 5+ targets and caught a touchdown on Sunday. Is the tight end you own doing that? Mine’s not.

Upcoming Schedule: @HOU, JAX, @WAS, BYE

FAAB Bid: $0-1

1. Ryan Succop – TEN (20% owned): He’s 9/10 on Field Goals with 4 FG’s from 40+ yards out and now he plays the Bills. Points a plenty.

2. Dan Bailey – MIN (44% owned): The Vikings got back on track last week against a tough Rams defense and put up 31 points in a losing effort. Bailey went 3/3 and is one of the most accurate kickers of all time.

3. Ka’imi Fairbairn – HOU (9% owned): He’s 9/11 on the season and hasn’t missed a kick under 50 yards. He is kicking on his home turf this weekend.

1. Titans (16% owned): They are 8th in the league with 12 sacks and 8th in the league in Points Against (73). Now they get the turnover-prone low-scoring Bills.

2. 49ers (3% owned): Not in love with this defense, but they get a rookie QB, Josh Rosen and a bad Cardinals offense, travelling on the road and they should be able to keep the points down and create some turnovers.

RECOMMENDED FOR DEEP LEAGUES: QB Mitchell Trubisky, QB Jameis Winston, QB Blake Bortles, QB Joe Flacco, RB Frank Gore, RB Ito Smith, RB Ty Montgomery, RB Wendell Smallwood, RB Jalen Richard (PPR Only), RB Ronald Jones II, RB Alfred Blue, WR Christian Kirk WR Keke Coutee, WR Aldrick Robinson, WR Zach Pascal, WR Chester Rogers, WR Cordarelle Patterson, WR Phillip Dorsett, WR John Ross, WR Jordan Matthews, WR Taywan Taylor, WR Kendrick Bourne, WR Ryan Grant, TE Antonio Gates, TE Jordan Leggett, TE Ricky Seals-Jones, TE Dallas Goedert
